Our first look at the Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel has arrived!
After months of waiting, the title of the third Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man film has been revealed to be Spider-Man: No Way Home. Last night, Tom Holland, Jacob Batalon, and Zendaya revealed three stills from the movie as well as three logos with fake titles. The actors, who are reprising their roles of Peter Parker, Ned Leeds, and MJ respectively, poked fun at each other on Instagram and revealed the real title in a short video released earlier today. Director Jon Watts returns to complete the trilogy while other actors reprising their roles include Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson. The fake logos can be seen below, including the titles Spider-Man: Phone Home, Spider-Man: Home-Wrecker, and Spider-Man: Home Slice.
No Way Home is heavily speculated to involve characters from across the MCU multiverse, with Jamie Foxx returning as Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Alfred Molina reprising his role of Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2. Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange will be a major supporting character, while Charlie Cox will also reprise his role as Matt Murdock from the Netflix original series Daredevil. Additionally, several other Spider-Man actors from the two previous franchises are rumored to return, including Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as their versions of Spider-Man, Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn/Green Goblin.
Multiverse connections are almost guaranteed by Kevin Feige's confirmation that Spider-Man: No Way Home is part of the storyline that begins with the Disney+ original series WandaVision and concludes in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The title of the film could further hint at plot points: Peter Parker could be on the run after Mysterio exposed his secret identity to the world, he could be lost in another universe, or other Spider-Man film characters could be stuck in the MCU. No matter what, it looks like whatever will happen in next week's WandaVision finale will be messing things up for Peter and his friends in a big way!
The whiteboard full of title possibilities in the reveal video (below) adds even more mystery. A WandaVision leak from last night, now confirmed to be false, claimed that the title was Spider-Man: Homeworlds. Other rumored titles present on the board include Spider-Man: Homerun and Spider-Man: Homesick. There are also many hexagon doodles that seem to be chemical formulas or compounds, but they could also reference WandaVision's abundance of hexagons, which are still an unexplained phenomenon heading into Episode 8.
What do you think of the title Spider-Man: No Way Home? I don't mind it and it's not as bad as Spider-Man: Far From Home, which is by far the worst title for a Spider-Man movie in my opinion.
Spider-Man: No Way Home releases only in theaters on December 17th, 2021.
