This morning, Marvel Studios released a video celebrating the theatrical experience and providing a fresh look at upcoming MCU movies!
A small amount of new footage from Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was shown, as well as the very first look at Eternals. Spider-Man: No Way Home received a brief logo animation while other films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder were spotlighted briefly.
However, the other 2022 films and beyond were given new logos, titles, and release dates, filling out the Phase Four slate even more!
Black Panther II, releasing July 8, 2022, has been retitled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The name change fits with director Ryan Coogler's comments about the sequel exploring the world of Wakanda after Chadwick Boseman passed away unexpectedly in August 2020.
Captain Marvel 2, releasing November 11, 2022, has been rebranded as The Marvels. The name change is surprising as it entirely removes the franchise name and implies that the sequel will be even more of an equal team-up film than expected. Iman Vellani's Kamala Khan returns from the Ms. Marvel Disney+ series releasing in fall 2021, and Teyonah Parris reprises her role as Monica Rambeau from WandaVision. With this new title, it seems likely that The Marvels will introduce Monica's comic-book love interest Adam Brashear, also known as Blue Marvel.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has a new release date of February 17, 2023, as well as a slightly updated logo.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now officially confirmed for a May 5, 2023 release. The final film in the trilogy will release six years after the second, and also received its first official logo.
No further information was provided on Fantastic Four, but it's assumed to be the July 2023 Marvel Studios film and its logo animation was shown once more. Blade was not included in the theatrical slate, surprisingly, and other films known to be in active development were not mentioned either. These include the third Deadpool film, Captain America 4, and the untitled mutants project.
There's a lot to look forward to from Marvel Studios in the coming months and years! Which movie are you most excited for? For me, it's got to be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels. I can't wait to see what comes next!
